2017 Yearbook
Our yearbooks have arrived and been distributed to our students. If you would like to still order one, then use the following link to order. Parenting Corner
When parents boast about their children with other people, what do most say first? Is it how nice they are to strangers? Or how much volunteering they did last year? Usually not. More often, they talk about their good grades in school, or the prestigious college they went to, or the much sought-after summer internship they landed. But this is backwards. John Rosemond suggests that children need a dose of vitamin N. Please take time to watch this informative video. https://www.prageru.com/courses/life-studies/your-child-getting-enough-vitamin-n

Archery
This year, we are pleased to partner with Southern Addiction in Waverly Hall for our archery training. The practices will be on Tuesdays from 3:00 – 4:00, beginning September 19, 2017. The cost of the class will be the same as last year which is $20.00 per month. You will pay Southern Addiction directly. Although this class is not required to be on our team, it is highly recommended. We will also have classes at the school during P.E. (2:00-3:00) on certain days. We will provide practice arrows, but are requesting that our students purchase their own competition arrows (5 plus a few spare). Archery parents, we could really use your help this year. We need a few parents willing to volunteer to help sponsor our team, design/order team t-shirts, and setup equipment. If you can help, please see Mr. Hucks.

2017 Yearbook
If you were part of the WHCA family last year and have been wondering about last year’s yearbook, you no longer have to be in suspense. The 2017 yearbook is finally finished and ready to begin your customization. Treering yearbooks offer each customer two pages on which they can add personalized photos. Follow the link included to create an account or login to your existing account. Your custom pages and payment for the yearbook must be completed by Friday, September 8, 2017, to receive them with the rest of the student body. We take great pains to be sure that each student is represented throughout the yearbook as well as in their class section, but, of course, we can’t include every moment of a student’s school year. One of the best things about TreeRing is that each yearbook includes two customizable pages where you can add your own photos or choose others from the selection we have uploaded. A TreeRing yearbook is truly a great way to preserve memories from your child’s school year.

T-shirts and Hoodies
Please use the attached sheet to order your t-shirts or hoodies. Orders are due by Friday, September 1, 2017.

Labor Day – No School
Our school will be closed Monday, September 4, 2017, in observance of Labor Day.

Student ID and Attendance
WHCA is moving to an active attendance policy instead of a passive attendance policy. Instead of assuming the student is here and then making sure that they are, each student will need to scan their ID card when they arrive at school. The cost of the new ID badges was included as part of the fees that you paid. If your child loses or destroys their badge, they will be charged $5.00 for a replacement.

This new method of attendance will be more accurate and allow you to have a clearer view of your child’s attendance and tardiness. Please contact Mr. Hucks if you have any questions.

Parent Portal
Be on the lookout in the near future for new log-in information regarding our parent portal. We have a new system in place this year; therefore, your old log-in information is no longer valid. As usual, please don’t hesitate to call us with any questions you may have regarding this or any other concerns.

Welcome Back!
The first week of the 2017-18 school year is in the books. It’s hard to believe another school year is already upon us and in full swing. Faculty, staff, and students are settling in to their routines and looking forward to another great year.

We make every effort to be sure our students and parents are well-informed throughout the year. We do this by regularly sending out emails, text and the News Flash which is sent out in both paper form and electronically. Please take time to read through the News Flash because it contains important and often time-sensitive information regarding the happenings at WHCA.

Solar Eclipse
As you know, a solar eclipse is happening Monday, August 21. It is an exciting and possibly once in a lifetime event for many to experience. However, because of the potential danger involved in trying to view a solar eclipse, we will not be providing glasses for viewing or taking students outside during the eclipse.

If you would like to pick up your student early in order to participate in viewing the eclipse, we encourage you to do so. Students may leave as early as noon on Monday, August 21, without penalty; otherwise, the school day will proceed as normal with dismissal at the usual time.

2017 Yearbook
The 2016-2017 yearbook is almost done! Within the next week or so, we hope to be ready to send out information and a link regarding how to order and customize your yearbook. We are using TreeRing again. Their products are high quality, customizable, full-color, and best of all, affordable. You will place your order online and the books will be delivered to the school.

Move On When Ready (MOWR)
Any parent who would like for their 9th-12th grade child to participate in the MOWR college program will need to complete an MOWR application (attached) and return it to the office as soon as possible. The application may be emailed or slipped between the front doors of the school. Currently, we are scheduled to offer a Paralegal Assistant program through Columbus Tech for our ninth and tenth graders. We will be offering college core classes through Truett-McConnell University to our eleventh and twelfth graders.

Yearbook
Our 2016-2017 yearbook will be made available once school resumes for the 2017-2018 school year. We are using Tree Ring again this year, and you will be able to customize two-pages of your yearbook as last year. More information will be given after school resumes. Former students will be able to order yearbooks also.

Parent and Student Portal
WHCA will be using a different parent and student portal next year. We will be using Grade Link as our new provider, and we are excited to provide you with enhanced features to keep you informed about your child’s progress and events at WHCA. When the new system is set up, you will receive an email with login information. Grade Link also offers apps for your phone or tablets to allow you to see your child’s progress more quickly. Go to https://www.gradelink.com/ to learn more.

Uniforms
For those students who are returning, no uniform changes have been made. For our students entering K4 and K5, we are encouraging but not requiring your children to wear uniforms also. Our uniform policy can be found at www.whchristian.org. T-shirt and hoodie orders will be taken after school begins.

Kindergarten School Hours
Our K4 and K5 classes operate under our academy and will share the same calendar and school hours. Our school hours are 8:00 – 3:00.

Tuition and Accounts
Matriculation, technology, and registration (K4 and K5) fees are due July 1, 2017. Unless otherwise requested, tuition payments will begin August 1, 2017.

Report Card Packets
Your child’s report card packets were emailed several weeks ago. If you haven’t received yours, please contact the office.

Air Evac

The WHCA students and staff very much enjoyed a visit from the Air Evac helicopter this past Friday. The students had the chance to ask questions and see inside the helicopter. We appreciate them visiting our school and giving our students an up-close view of an emergency helicopter.

MOWR (Move on When Ready)

Students in 9th -12th grades who are ready may be able to take college courses.  As a student of WHCA, these courses can be completed at our school, online, or through on-campus attendance at no additional expense. In addition to being able to take classes during the school year, MOWR will pay for students to take classes in the summer of their freshman, sophomore, and junior years.

Not all students are ready to pursue college courses, but some can handle the additional rigor and workload.  If students who are recommended decide to pursue college courses, they and their parents need to be aware that courses taken through MOWR are counted as college credit and high school credit.  If the student does poorly, then they will not receive credit for high school either.  If you are interested in your child participating in MOWR, please contact the office for more information.
