Newsflash – November 17, 2015

Lunch
The seniors will be selling lunch this Friday, November 20, 2015. The cost will be $3.00 and will include pizza, chips, and a drink. Orders will need to be placed and paid for this Thursday.

Archery Team
Congratulations to our archery team who qualified at district to compete at the state regional competition. Please be sure to pay Southern Addiction for November. We will have practice this week, but will not the week of Thanksgiving.

Living History performance and Covered Dish Meal
This year our third through eighth graders will be presenting a living history performance on Tuesday, November 24, 2015, beginning at 10:00 a.m. After that we will share a meal together at 11:00 a.m. and then dismiss at noon for the holiday.

The students will dress in character and will be presenting a historical figure. Guest will go around to each student, press a “button” and listen to a short speech about the character. This is an exciting way to bring history alive not only for your child, but also for you. You will need to help your child with his or her costume and research on their character. Students are to bring their costumes and have their speeches ready by this Friday, November 20, 2015, for rehearsal.

Thanksgiving Break
Our school and daycare will dismiss at noon on Tuesday, November 24, 2015, and will be closed Wednesday through Monday, November 25-30, 2015, for our Thanksgiving break. School will resume on Tuesday, December 1, 2015. We hope during this break that you will be able to spend time with family and friends and reflect on the goodness of our God.

Can Food Drive
We are now collecting for our canned food drive for the holiday season. We will continue to collect non-perishables until the Christmas break. If you would like to participate, then bring in your donation to our office. Thanks for your help in this community outreach project.

Annual Ski trip
Start planning today to be a part of our annual ski trip to Cataloochee Ski Area in Maggie Valley, NC this winter. The dates are Thursday, January 7, 2016, through Friday, January 8, 2016. Due to the nature of this activity, each student skier must be accompanied by an adult. The price of the ticket this year is $135.00 and includes: two days of unlimited skiing, lift tickets, ski rental, lunches and snacks each day. A non–refundable deposit of $30.00 per person is due by Friday, December 11, 2015. This price does not include hotel and travel expenses. That information is below.

We have secured a group rate of $65.00, plus tax, per night at the Comfort Inn in Maggie Valley. You will need to make reservation through the hotel directly. Use the group # 2349747, Waverly Hall Christian Academy, when making reservations. You will need to cancel by January 5, 2016, to avoid any charges. Cross Country
Congratulations to our cross country team for  a good season. Our JV boys and Varsity girls took first place at our first hosted meet. Also, our Varsity girls took second place at the state championship.

No School – Veteran’s Day
There will be no school on Wednesday, November 11, 2015, in observance of Veteran’s Day. WHCA would like to thank all of our veterans for their service to our country.

Newsflash 10-16-2015

Cross Country
We will be hosting a cross country event here on campus Saturday, October 17, 2015. We are still in need of several volunteers to help us with the event. Please contact Mr. Cook if you would like to help.

The Cross Country championships will be held at Williams Mill Greenspace: 6166 Blackjack Rd, Flowery Branch, Georgia on Saturday, October 24, 2015. Racing times are 9:00 for varsity race, 9:45 for JV race. Please arrive by 8:00 a.m.

Spirit Week
Spirit Week is scheduled for the week of October 19, 2015. During this time, students have the chance to come out of uniform and get a little wacky. Please adhere to our out-of-uniform policy especially with regard to modesty.
Uniforms must be worn if a student does not participate.

Monday – Pajama Day Just roll out of bed in your finest curlers, fuzzy slippers and big fluffy robes. Please remember modesty.

Tuesday –  Tacky Day Leave your sense of style and coordination at home.

Wednesday – Decade Day Outfit yourself in celebration of your favorite decade, i.e., poodle skirts, disco attire, hippy, or any other decade that strikes your fancy.

Thursday – Picture Day This is when you get dressed up to have your school pictures taken.
Really, this is picture day.

Friday – Your Choice Be creative, dress as your favorite character, appliance, wear your camouflage. Come dressed like a baby, old person, or cartoon character, etc. Please no vampires, witches, demons, etc.

Fall Cookout
This year’s fall cookout will be Friday, October 23, 2015; from 6:30 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. School will be dismissed at noon, in order to prepare for our cookout. The school will provide the hamburgers, hotdogs, and bun. We ask that our families bring can drinks, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, side dishes, condiments or desserts. This is primarily a time for our families to get together and fellowship. Please do not drop your children off as we unable to provide supervision. We will have a few small games for our little ones. If you would like to donate a bag of candy for the games, please send it in by Monday, October 19, 2015.

This is not a costumed event. Please return the attached sheet by Wednesday, October 21, 2015, to let us know how many will be attending with your family.

By now you should have received an email containing a link to your child’s portal. This portal will give you information about your child’s grades, attendance, school announcements, and calendar events. Please log in and go to the registration tab to make sure your information is correct. Also, you can change your password, and make changes to your preferences. Spirit Week

Spirit Week is scheduled for the week of October 19, 2015.  During this time, students have the chance to come out of uniform and get a little wacky.   Please adhere to our out-of-uniform policy especially with regard to modesty. Uniforms must be worn if a student does not participate.   More information will be sent out as to the different themes for each day closer to Spirit Week.

Fall Cookout

This year’s fall cookout will be Friday, October 23, 2015, from 6:30 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. The school will provide the hamburgers, hotdogs, and buns. We ask that our families bring can or bottle drinks, condiments, side dishes, and /or dessert. This is primarily a time for our families to get together and meet one another.  Please do not drop your children off as we are unable to provide supervision.  This is not a costumed event.

Cross Country

Our next cross country event will be October 3, 2015, at Nash Farms near Hampton Georgia.  Please remember that students will have to compete in at least two events in order to qualify for state championship.

Tissues and Lysol Wipes

We are asking for our parents to donate more facial tissues and containers of Lysol wipes.  We have already gone through a lot already and cold and flu season has not arrived. We appreciate your help as we continue to battle germs.

Golf Cart/ATV

We are in the process of finishing our cross country trail for our students on the backside of our property and could use a golf cart to help in the trail management.  If you have or know of someone that might have golf cart/ atv that they would be willing to donate or loan please contact the office. Please remember that WHCA is a 501 c3 corporation and all gifts and donations are tax-deductible.

Student and Parent Portal

By now you should have received an email containing a link to your child’s portal. This portal will give you information about your child’s grades, attendance, school announcements, and calendar events. Please log in and go to the registration tab to make sure your information is correct. Also, you can change your password, and make changes to your preferences. Cross Country

Be on the lookout for the cross country schedule coming soon.  We will be attending events in the near future.  For all students participating in the sport, there will be a $20.00 fee.  This is a fee that we have to pay to our association on your behalf.

Archery

We have partnered with Southern Addiction Archery in Waverly Hall to provide after school training for those wanting to participate in archery this year.  Your child will receive individualize instruction from professional archer, Brian Danbury.  The training session will be on Tuesdays from 3:15- 4:15 at Southern Addiction.  The cost will be $20.00 per month per archer.

Although this is not required, it will be invaluable to your child’s archery training.  They will make tremendous progress and be better prepared for the archery competitions in the near future.  The rules have changed this year and every team and/or individual will have to qualify with a minimum score in order to shoot at regional.

We will provide the bows and the arrows for your child’s use.  A signup sheet is located in the office.  Please let Mr. Hucks know if you are interested in participating or if you have any questions.

 

Labor Day

WHCA and daycare will be closed for Labor Day on Monday, September 7, 2015.

Class rings

We suggest that seniors order their class rings through Wal-Mart.  WHCA has already paid the setup charges, so most rings can be purchased for around $100.00.

Seniors have a couple of options for their senior pictures. Go to http://lifetouch.com/senior-portraits/ to see details and contact information for Lifetouch.  We will also be sending a flyer home later from local photographer, Taryn Pratt. She will be offering several packages.

NewsFlash – May 7, 2015

Awards Program
Beginning at 11:00 a.m. this Friday we will have our awards program. The awards program will be for grades 1st through 12th. After the awards program, school will be dismissed. Come be a part of honoring our students in their achievements.

College Courses for 2015-2016.
Our rising juniors and seniors will be enrolled in two college courses next year at WHCA through Columbus Tech. Currently, the students will be enrolled in English 1101, and History 2112 for the fall semester. The students will receive high school and college credit for each course. This is a wonderful opportunity for your child to start working on their core classes for college without an additional expense to you. Since we have enough students taking the courses, Columbus Tech will either send instructors or it may enroll the students in an online class. We will have more information towards the beginning of the school year.

Tuition and Accounts
Unless otherwise requested, all tuition payments will start August 1st, and all matriculation and technology fees are due between June 1st and July 1st.

Report Card Packets
Report card packets will be ready for all parents after school is over. The packets will contain your child’s report cards, a calendar for next year, supply list, SAT scores, and any other pertinent information.

Summer Hours
If you are in need of something throughout the summer, then there are two ways that you may reach us. You may leave a message on the answering machine. We check it regularly, or you may email us at office@whchristian.org. Either way you choose, we will make it our goal to get back with you as soon as possible. Please also remember that items like handbooks, calendar, and supply lists will be available on our website, www.whchristian.org Have a great summer. We look forward to seeing you back next year. Ronald McDonald House
In order to raise money for the Ronald McDonald house we will be allowing students to come completely out of uniform this Friday. The cost of coming to school in your “civvies” will be $1.00 and if you would like to wear a hat that day, it will be an additional $1.00. Thanks ahead of time for your help.

Stanford Achievement Testing
Achievement testing will begin on Monday, April 13, 2015, and will end on Wednesday. April 15, 2015. Students will be dismissed at noon. Thursday will be reserved for make ups only, all other students will be off Thursday and there will be no school on Friday, April 17, 2015. You child will have breaks between the tests, so please send snacks and a drinks.

Please make sure to note the following:
 Please be on time, for it is very difficult to make up portions of the test.
 Please bring several #2 pencils.
 Bring  snacks or money for the machine. Students will be given several breaks throughout testing.
 There will be no homework given during testing week.
 Students will be dismissed at noon since their minds are fried by the end of testing.

American Red Cross Blood Drive

Columbus Technical College
Columbus Tech will be here Wednesday, March 25, 2015, at 8:30 a.m. to administer the Compass (College Entrance Exam) to our rising juniors and seniors. Based on their scores, some of our student may qualify to take college courses next year.

Also, next year our 9th – 11th graders will participate in the Career Connect Program through Columbus Tech. This program will offer our students two college courses (BUSN 1320 and BUSN 1330) that will help them to develop soft business skills. The college course will be of no cost to parents. After successful completion of the course, your child will receive up to 9 hours of college credits.

Please Wash Your Hands
We sanitize several times daily and encourage our students to wash their hands but still could use your help. Please help us to encourage your children to wash their hands regularly, not to swap or share drink or food with each other, and to not put their hands in their mouths. The most common way germs are transmitted is through the hands and mouth. Thanks for your help.
