Veteran’s Day

We will be closed on Monday and Tuesday , November 11 and 12, 2014, for Veterans Day.

 

Student and Parent Portal

By now you should have received an email containing a link to your child’s portal. This portal will give you information about your child’s grades, attendance, school announcements, calendar events and you even can order lunch. Please log in and go to the registration tab to make sure your information is correct. Also, you can change your password, and make changes to your preferences. If you have any questions, please contact the office.

 

Student Absences

Our attendance policy states that a student may miss up to 30 days in the school year 20 of which may be unexcused. High school courses take period attendance, and if your child misses more than the amount of days allowed, then they will not be to pass that particular subject even though they may have been here for the rest of the classes.  It is imperative that your child arrives on time and tries not to miss any more days than necessary.

 

In addition, according to O.C.G.A. 40-5-22(a.1) (2) suspension of their license is mandated for any student having ten (10) or more unexcused absences.  If your child is absent, it is imperative that you send an excuse. School Needs

Freezer

The school is in need of a freezer for our lunch program.  If you have an extra working freezer that you are willing to donate, please contact the office.

 

Golf Cart

We have recently cleared a cross country trail for our students on the backside of our property and could use a golf cart to help in the trail management.  If you have or know of someone that might have a golf that they would be willing to donate, please contact or office. Please remember that WHCA is a 501 c3 corporation and all gifts and donations are tax-deductible.

 

Hoodie and T-shirt

Our hoodies are $30.00 each and the t-shirts are $10.00 each. Orders may be placed through the office. If you purchase non-uniform, non-zippered sweatshirts, hoodies, and sweaters in the future, we asked that they are basic blue or grey.  If they don’t zip, we consider them part of the uniform and not outerwear.

 

Community Blood Drive

WHCA will be hosting a community blood drive on Wednesday, December 17, 2014, from 1:30 – 6:30.  Please mark your calendar and help us have a successful drive.  More information will be sent.

 

Ski Trip

Start planning today to be a part of our annual ski trip to Cataloochee Ski Area this winter. The dates are Thursday, January 8, 2015, through Friday, January 9, 2015. Be on the lookout for more information.

No School or Daycare – Columbus Day

The school and daycare will be closed on Monday, October 13, 2014, in observance of Columbus Day. School will resume on Tuesday, October 14, 2014.

 

Cross Country Championships

The Cross Country championships will be held in Douglasville, Georgia, on October 25, 2014.

 

Spirit Week

Spirit Week is scheduled for the week of October 20, 2014.  During this time, students have the chance to come out of uniform and get a little wacky.   Please adhere to our out-of-uniform policy especially with regard to modestyUniforms must be worn if a student does not participate.

Monday               Pajama Day

Just roll out of bed in your finest curlers, fuzzy slippers and big    fluffy robes. Please remember modesty.

 

Tuesday               Tacky Day

Leave your sense of style and coordination at home.

 

Wednesday         Decade Day

Outfit yourself in celebration of your favorite decade, i.e., poodle  skirts, disco attire, hippy, or any other decade that strikes your fancy.

 

Thursday            Picture Day                      

This is when you get dressed up to have your school pictures taken.   Really, this is picture day.

 

Friday                  Your Choice                     

Be creative, dress as your favorite character, appliance, wear your camouflage.        Come dressed like a baby, old person, or cartoon character, etc.  Please no vampires, witches, demons, etc.

Fall Cookout

This year’s fall cookout will be Friday, October 24, 2014, from 6:30 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. The school will provide the hamburgers, hotdogs, bun, and condiments.  We ask that our families bring can drinks, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, side dishes, or dessert. This is primarily a time for our families to get together and fellowship.  Please do not drop your children off as we unable to provide supervision.  Our Student Government Association will have a few small games for our little ones.  If you would like to donate a bag of candy for the games, please send it in by Friday, October 17, 2014.

 

In order to raise money for field trips and projects around the school, the SGA (Student Government Association) is having a pie- in- the face contest.  The faculty or staff member, who receives the most money in their collection jar, will get a pie in the face.  So bring your leftover change and help the students pie a deserving faculty or staff member.

This is not a costumed event. Please let us know how many will be attending with your family. Please return the attached sheet by Friday October 17, 2014.

 

School Wide Field Trip – The Rock Ranch

The school will be taking a field trip to The Rock Ranch outside of Thomaston, on Monday October 27, 2014.  The field will cost $8.00 per person and you will need to bring a sack lunch. We will need to arrive by 9:15 a.m. This educational field trip will cover “From Pilgrims to Pioneers” Please fill out the attached sheet indicating you intentions. Please include payment with your permission form and return by Friday, October 17, 2014.  Thanks and we look forward to a wonderful trip.

 

Can Food Drive

We are now collecting our can food drive for the holiday season.  If you would like to participate, then bring in your donation to our office.   Thanks for your help in this community outreach project.

Newsflash August 11, 2014

Welcome Back

School begins at 8:00 a.m. on Monday, August 11, 2014.   School dismisses at 3:00 p.m. Students can arrive at 7:45 and need to be picked up by 3:15. Please let the office know if you need other arrangements.

Parent Survey

We appreciate your feedback and kind words in our parent survey. We have made quite a few improvements to our facilities and program based on those suggestions. Thanks again for your time.

 Lunch

This year we will be offering lunch on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.  We will be operating a voucher system in which you can prepay a lunch account.  After that, you will be able to login to our website and order your child’s lunch on our parent portal based on your account balances.  We hope that this will help make lunch ordering easier.

 B.Y.O.D.

WHCA is moving to a B.Y.O.D. (Bring Your Own Device) policy. The policy would eventually require your children to bring their own laptops tablets.  This will allow us to focus our resources more on classroom technology instead of repairing and replacing classroom computers.  Please contact the office if you have any questions.

 College Courses

Columbus Tech will be administering the COMPASS on Tuesday, August 12, 2014, to students who are fifteen years and older.  We encourage you to have your child go online and look up practice test so that they will be familiar with the testing procedure.

After taking the COMPASS, students will be allowed to enroll in a college course on our campus at no cost to you as a parent.  Columbus Tech will be offering a Customer Service course designed to help students develop skills necessary to compete in today’s market.  Students who successfully pass the course will receive college credit.  This will be a great way to introduce your child to college work while still in high school.    Currently, the course is scheduled from 2:00 – 3:00.

News Flash May 8, 2014

Final Exams

The 9th  through 12th grades will be taking final exams the last week of school. High school students may leave after their final exam, unless they have missing work to turn in to their teachers. Elementary students will be dismissed at 3:00 p.m.

All students will be dismissed at noon on Friday, May 16, 2014.

Awards Program

Please plan to attend our Awards Program honoring your children’s hard work this year.  The program will be on Friday, May 16, 2014, at 10:00 a.m.  Students will be dismissed after the program for an enjoyable summer of bliss. J

 

Lower School Spring Fling

The lower school will be going to CiCi’s Pizza and then Hollywood Connection for skating and /or laser tag on Tuesday, May 13, 2014.  We will meet at Cici’s at 11:00 a.m. and then go to Hollywood Connection after lunch.  The cost of the pizza buffet and drink will be around $8.00.  The cost of skating or laser tag per session will be $5.00.  Please send cash with your child since they will be paying individually.  You may meet us at Cici’s and the students will be dismissed after we are finished at Hollywood connection.  We will return to school by 3:00 p.m. for those not leaving from Hollywood connection. Students may wear jeans and a WHCA t-shirt. Please return the permission sheet by Monday, May 12, 2014.

 

Parent Survey

We will be distributing a survey to our parents shortly.  The purpose of this survey is to learn more about your family’s experience with Waverly Hall Christian Academy. Your opinions and attitudes are of vital importance to this assessment. The survey has been designed to accomplish two main goals: to measure our performance based on the opinions of school families, and to guide goal setting and planning for the future. Thank you ahead of time for your help as we endeavor to make WHCA a wonderful place for your children.

Graduation

This year’s graduation will be held at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, 4980 Hancock Road, Midland, GA 31820. The ceremony will be held on Friday, May 16, 2014, at 7:00 p.m.  Graduates will need to be there by 6:00 p.m. for pictures and final rehearsal.Seniors will need to be available for graduation rehearsal Friday, May 16, 2014.

 

Tuition and Accounts

Unless otherwise requested, all tuition payments will start August 1st, and all matriculation and technology fees are due between June 1st and July 1st.

 

Report Card Packets

Report card packets will be mailed to all parents after school is over.  The packets will contain your child’s report cards, a calendar for next year, supply list, SAT scores, and any other pertinent information.

 

Summer Hours

If you are in need of something throughout the summer, then there are two ways that you may reach us.   You may leave a message on the answering machine. We check it regularly, or you may email us at office@whchristian.org.  Either way you choose, we will make it our goal to get back with you as soon as possible. Please also remember that items like handbooks, calendar, and supply lists will be available on our website, www.whchristian.org   Have a great summer. We look forward to seeing you back next year.

High School Spring Fling

This year our high school students and parents are invited to attend our Spring Fling on Friday, March 28, 2014, at 6:30 p.m.  It is a time that our families dress up and go out to eat together.  We would love to have as many parents to attend as possible. This year’s Spring Fling will be at WHCA. The cost is $10.00 per person for the meal. After the dinner, the students will be watching a movie and then go out as a group afterwards.  Upper school students will be allowed to leave at noon to get ready for event.

Archery Practice

The archery team will be practicing this Saturday from 12:30-2:30 in preparation for the State Archery Tournament. Please make plans to be here as this is our last practice session before the tournament.

Spring Break

WHCA will be closed from Monday – Friday, March 31 – April 4, 2014 for Spring Break.

Beauty is a Beast

We would like to congratulate the advance drama team for a wonderful performance of Beauty is a Beast. Also, we would like to express our gratitude to Mrs. Chappell for all of her hard work.

Next Year’s Enrollment

If you haven’t already done so, please fill out the re-enrollment card and return it to us as soon as possible. This will help us plan for next year.

SAT Testing

We will be administering the Stanford Achievement Test the week of April 14, 2014.  Please make sure to note the following:

  • Please be on time, for it is very difficult to make up portions of the test.
  • Please bring several #2 pencils.
  • The SAT 10 will be given in the morning.
  •  Bring some snacks or money for the machine.  Students will be given several breaks throughout testing.There will be no homework for testing week.
  • Students will be dismissed at noon since their minds are fried by the end of testing. Some students may finish Thursday and thus will not be required to attend school on Friday.

Archery Regional

Many of our students will be participating in our upcoming Archery tournament on March 1, 2014 at Peach County High School in fort Valley, Georgia.  Our flight times are schedule for 2:00 and 3:00 p.m. The entry fee for those participating will be $10.00. If you have not already paid your child’s entry fee, please do so as soon as possible.

Archery Donations

As we prepare for our first competition, we are in need of additional items.  Many of our parents have donated their time and money to help buy new arrows and to help re-fletch old ones, but we still in need of a few items.

EDAPT Testing

WHCA has been approved to offer the Alcohol and Drug Awareness Program (ADAP) classes to our students online (eADAP).   Your child will have to take this test before they will be able to get their driver’s license.  Many of our students are in the process of completing their test. Also, we are allowed to offer this class to homeschoolers and others that may have not had the class yet. Please contact the office if you have any questions.

Secret Santa and Christmas Party

Recently, many of our students drew names to participate in our Secret Santa gift exchange.  The gifts should be around $10.00 dollars.  We will exchange gifts on Friday, December 20, 2013, during our Christmas party. Please bring your gifts by Thursday, December 19, 2013. Girls will be drawing girl’s gifts and boys will be drawing boy’s gifts.

Our Christmas party will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, December 20, 2013.  Our parents are invited to come and celebrate with us.  We are asking our families to bring foods such as chips, desserts, sandwiches, finger foods, and drinks, etc. School will be dismissed by noon.

Please join us on Wednesday to help build our float and put together our candy bags.  If you have any Christmas lights you are not using, please bring them.   We would like to light up our float this year. Also, if you have some big boxes and Christmas wrapping paper, please bring them also.  We will be decorating our float with wrapped boxes.

Local Charity

We are collecting donations of non-perishable food and jackets (gently used) for our local charities.  If you would like to participate, please make your donations by December 13, 2013. Thanks in advance for your help.

Cross-Country Meet, Saturday, August 31, 2013

This coming Saturday, August 31, 2013, our cross country team will have their first competition. The race will be held at Nash Farms Battlefield in Hampton GA. We will plan to meet at the site by 8:00 a.m. There will be a walk through and the varsity will run first.  For those participating in Cross-country this year, there will be a $25.00 participation fee per family.  This will cover the registration fees for the rest of the competitions.

Labor Day 

School will be out on Monday, September 2, 2013, in observance of Labor Day.

ASBESTOS HAZARD EMERGENCY RESPONSE ACT

Waverly Hall Christian Academy has received an affidavit from the builder stating that no asbestos materials were used in the construction of the school building.

According to §763.99 exclusions, under the Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA), all public and non‑public schools must be inspected by a certified inspector or have an affidavit stating that no asbestos has been used in the construction of the school building.  No asbestos material was used in the construction of our school. A copy of the affidavit is on file in the school’s office and may be inspected by any employee, student or school parent who wishes to do so.
